With the increase in the popularity of weight-loss drugs in the past year, curiosity has also been on the rise, particularly among those who are trying to guess the celebrities who might be taking Ozempic.
The drug is indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes, and the weight loss aspect has been an important side effect, which makes it an off-label drug for weight loss. The active component in Ozempic, semaglutide, was approved for the treatment of obesity under the brand name Wegovy. Novo Nordisk, the company that makes Ozempic, has previously told TODAY.com that it does not recommend the off-label use of any of its drugs.
Other medications in the same class include Mounjaro, which is approved for the treatment of diabetes, as well as Zepbound, which is approved for the treatment of obesity, both from Eli Lilly.
The reality of social media means it has been difficult to escape the Ozempic before-and-after pictures, which show dramatic changes to the physical appearance of the users. Therefore, when a celebrity is seen as slimmer, it is easy for people to suspect whether or not they use Ozempic.
Very few celebrities have talked about the use of weight-loss pills and their views on them. This is what some of them have said.
If you are thinking of taking any weight loss drug, you should talk to your doctor.
Chrissy Teigen
In September of 2025, Chrissy Teigen revealed she started using the drug after the miscarriage she experienced in 2020 as part of an episode of the podcast she hosts called “Self-Conscious.”
As she explained, this decision was made during a time of emotional pain: “This was during a time of dealing with the deep depression of seeing a pregnant body without a baby.” She felt that her body was “completely stuck” afterwards. Tiegen did admit that she did indulge during the pregnancy, and after the baby was lost at 20 weeks, she felt that she had gained 40 pounds that she did not want to carry.

Another challenge that Teigen experienced was the appetite suppression associated with weight loss drugs. She explained, “The appetite suppression associated with weight loss drugs was hard for me to deal with. It was frustrating, and I could see that my body needed nourishment to keep my energy up.”
Serena Williams
After giving birth to her second child, Serene Williams began taking a GLP-1 drug to aid in weight loss, she revealed to TODAY.com.
“The tennis star said that she proves that it is possible to do everything right and still have issues with shedding pounds.” In addition to her training, she said that she “walked for hours” and then changed her diet from vegetarian to vegan, and yet, she was still having issues with shedding pounds.
“One of the myths is that (a GLP-1 is) a shortcut,” she said to TODAY.com. “As an athlete and as someone who has done it all, and as someone who has done it all, I just couldn’t get my weight to where it needed to be at a healthy point-and trust me, I am not one to take shortcuts.”
Since she began taking a GLP-1, Williams notices improvements in her blood sugar control, as she no longer experiences difficulties, and her joints feel lighter.
Meghan Trainor
“It’s disheartening that so much of the questions and commentary were about my body rather than my music, my passion, or the decade of work that led me to this place. This is what it’s like to be a woman in the music business,” she posted on Instagram.
She said that in order to be the healthiest version of herself for her children, she has been working with a dietitian and a trainer, and that this journey included the use of the weight-loss medication Mounjaro.
“I’ve worked with a dietician, made some big lifestyle changes, began exercising, and leveraged some medical resources to help me after my second pregnancy. I am glad I did, as I feel great,” she said, as she addressed some of the attention she received on her big achievement.
Oprah Winfrey
The famous host admitted taking weight loss medications.
“Now I use it when I feel that I need it, as a means of not yo-yoing,” she said.
Winfrey, who has been very open about her experiences with weight for many years, told People magazine that the medication has helped her find a better balance. She presented the discovery as a change in perspective regarding weight control.
“That the medically approved prescription for dealing with my weight and staying healthier even exists within my lifetime is a kind of relief, of redemption, of gift-and not something to hide behind and be made fun of again,” she said. “I’m through with the shame from others and from myself.”

She also admitted that her outlook has transformed with time. At some point, Oprah believed that slimming medications were an ‘easy way out,’ but her knowledge has transformed.
“I realized that I had been blaming myself for all these years for being obese,” she said, “when in fact, I have a tendency that no amount of willpower can possibly hold in check.”
Kelly Clarkson
Kelly Clarkson told Whoopi Goldberg on her talk show, “I am taking medication to give me a weight-loss boost. I am not going to give it to you, but it is working,” she said.
“Everybody just thinks it’s Ozempic; it isn’t,” said Clarkson. “It is something else. It is something that can break down sugar. My body just doesn’t process it like it should.”
The medication has been “really good” for Clarkson, as she admits that at first, she was hesitant because of her previous health problems related to her thyroid.
“My doctor chased me for about two years, and I kept saying no because I was scared. I already have thyroid problems,” she said.
She later changed her mind when routine tests came up with some worrisome results. “I decided to try it because my blood work got so bad,” Clarkson said.
Thinking back on assumptions that have been made, she added more context regarding this point in her life. “I was at my heaviest at 203 pounds, and I am five foot three and a half,” she said, “People assume that means that I was miserable or that I was depressed, and that wasn’t true at all.”
Kathy Bates
In fact, actress Kathy Bates recently revealed that she lost 100 pounds in the past seven years through lifestyle changes and the use of Ozempic.
“There’s been a lot of talk that I was only able to do this through the use of Ozempic, which isn’t true. I really want people I know that took work, especially during the pandemic. It is very difficult to get to the place where you can say you’ve had enough,” Kathy Bates told People.
She also talked about her experience in October 2024 during her episode on The Drew Barrymore Show, giving more insight into where the medication was in her health journey.
“I did start taking Ozempic recently, and people just automatically said, ‘Oh, she did it with Ozempic,’ which isn’t true,” she said during the interview. Bates said that she started taking the drug about a year ago as a result of diabetes issues, which helped with the final part of her weight loss process. “It helped me with the last 15 pounds or so,” Bates said while admitting that even with the drug, a person has to watch their diet.
Harvey Fierstein
The Broadway star reported losing approximately 120 pounds through the use of Zepbound after his weight ballooned to an estimated 310 pounds during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“What’s different is what the drug actually does for you.” Harvey Fierstein told Page Six. “I don’t feel like I’m dieting. I feel like a normal person. I can go out to dinner with friends and not feel compelled to eat all the bread on the table or go looking for ice cream afterwards.”
He also spoke about some of the misconceptions regarding weight, saying, “People don’t understand that being fat is not a choice. It’s something where your body is out of balance, and this helps bring it back into balance.”
However, Fierstein added that after he stopped taking the drug he was able to regain 15 pounds of the weight lost, although he now weighs around 200 pounds.
