GLP-1 medications are no longer the ‘worst kept secret’ in Hollywood. From A-list actors to sports superstars, many celebrities have been opening up about their experiences and the role GLP-1s like Ozempic, Wegovy, Zepbound, and Mounjaro have played in their weight loss journey.
However, the narrative is slowly changing. Instead of being secretive about their weight loss journey, many celebrities have been opening up about what it’s like to deal with weight issues and the changes that come along with it.
Here are a few celebrities who have been open about their experiences with GLP-1s, and what helped and what did not, and the role GLP-1s have played in their lives.
Oprah Winfrey
In March 2024, Winfrey hosted a primetime ABC special, “An Oprah Special: Shame, Blame, and the Weight Loss Revolution”, in which she discussed her experience using GLP-1 medications.
“I never imagined that in my lifetime we’d be discussing medicines that offer real hope to people like me who have struggled with weight or obesity for years,” Winfrey revealed to People.
What Winfrey did not reveal until later was that she faced a new challenge during her weight loss journey. In an interview with *People* published in December 2025, Winfrey revealed that six months into her GLP-1 medication regimen, she decided to stop taking it to see if she could maintain her weight loss without medication.
However, Winfrey learned that she had gained back about 20 pounds during the following year. “This is a long-term commitment. If I stop taking blood pressure medication, my blood pressure goes up. I’ve come to understand it’s the same with these medications. That experience showed me that this is something I genuinely need.”
Serena Williams

In the summer of 2025, Serena Williams revealed that she lost 31 pounds since the birth of her second baby, attributing her success to the GLP-1 drug Zepbound. In an interview with People magazine, Williams discussed the experience, noting that even though she had always eaten healthy and was physically active throughout her life, competing at the highest level as an elite athlete, she still felt that she was unable to get past a certain point on her own.
“‘I could tell my body needed something it wasn’t getting,’ Williams said. ‘For me, GLP-1s were the answer.’”
As a paid spokesperson for Ro, a telehealth company that provides GLP-1s, Williams is using her platform to change the dialogue around weight loss medication. “‘I have so much more energy now, and that feels amazing,’ Williams said. ‘I genuinely feel good about where I’m at.’”
Rebel Wilson
Rebel Wilson is known for her appearances in the popular films “Pitch Perfect” and “The Hustle.” Wilson discussed her experience using the medication for a brief period. According to Wilson, the medication enabled her to sustain the major weight loss she achieved by declaring 2020 her “Year of Health” and losing 77 pounds.
In an interview given in 2024, Wilson discussed the rationale behind the medication being useful to her.
“If you’re someone like me, you can have a pretty bottomless appetite for sweets. So, I think those medications can be helpful. I do not use those medications anymore. I’m happy at my weight. I’m still curvy and solid.”
Wilson was quite open about the lessons that can be drawn from her experience. “I think young women shouldn’t try to look like Victoria’s Secret models. They should look like themselves. Of course, my relationship with food is complicated. I think that’s the case for a lot of people.”
Whoopi Goldberg
In 2024, Whoopi Goldberg told her co-hosts on The View about her experience using Mounjaro (Tirzepatide) as part of her weight loss journey. Recounting her experience during the filming of Till in 2022, Whoopi said she had gained weight up to close to 300 pounds. The weight gain was partly due to her steroid usage and other medications. However, she said that using Mounjaro was part of her weight loss journey.

In her discussion about the medication, Whoopi also touched on the cultural obsession with weight and appearance. She said that people need to have more empathy about how weight loss is viewed. She said, “Maybe the key is to stop judging everybody. We need to have more compassion for ourselves.”
Charles Barkley
Former NBA star Charles Barkley has revealed that he was able to lose around 60 pounds with the help of Mounjaro, in addition to his efforts in changing his dietary and physical routines. During his appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, Charles Barkley opened up about how Mounjaro has affected his life.
According to Charles, “It’s been great – I’m starting to feel like a human being again.” He added that his weight loss journey has seen his weight drop from 352 pounds to 290 pounds, and his ultimate goal is to weigh 270 pounds. Charles’ motivation for losing weight is not just to look good in public, and he said, “I just want to live longer.”
Kathy Bates
Academy Award winner Kathy Bates has been able to lose around 100 pounds over the past seven years, and she attributes this to changes in her lifestyle. According to Kathy, 80 pounds of this weight loss can be attributed to changes in her physical and dietary routines, while 20 pounds can be attributed to Ozempic. Kathy’s journey towards health and fitness began when she was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and decided to take this seriously.
According to Kathy, “It was hard work – especially during the pandemic.” To maintain this weight loss and stay fit, Kathy has shared that she intends to keep moving around.
Meghan Trainor
The “All About That Bass” hit maker and her actor husband, Daryl Sabara, have decided to take the weight loss journey together. The couple has chosen the lowest dose of the medication and combined it with regular exercise and a healthy diet.
The Grammy Award winner commented about the conversation that had ensued online following her appearance at the 2025 Women in Music Awards.
“No, I don’t look like I did 10 years ago. I have been on a journey to become the healthiest, strongest version of myself for my kids and me. I worked with a dietitian to make big changes in my life. I work with a fitness coach. After having my second baby, I had to work with a doctor and some medical help, including Mounjaro. I’m really glad I did it because I feel great.”
Billie Jean King
Tennis icon King spoke about her plans to take the GLP-1 medication during a conversation with Julia Louis-Dreyfus on the podcast called Wiser Than Me. King shared her thoughts about her long-time struggle with binge eating.
“Every morning I wake up and remind myself that I have an eating disorder. These new medications like Ozempic have come out, and it’s so interesting. My doctor says, ‘Give it a try.’ So, that’s what I’m going to do.”
King confirmed that she had indeed started the treatment and hoped that it would help her deal with the constant thoughts about food that had been bothering her most of her life.
Jim Gaffigan
Comedian Jim Gaffigan, who wrote the popular book “Dad Is Fat”, shared his experience with the use of Mounjaro with People magazine. Gaffigan, who weighed 270 pounds, reported that the use of the drug helped him reduce his weight by 50 pounds.
He also shared that the drug had a significant impact on his general well-being. “I’m just grateful. Life is much better now.” Gaffigan also shared that the use of weight loss drugs still carries a stigma. “I don’t see anything wrong with it. Sometimes it’s just about finding what helps you get through.”
Claudia Oshry
Claudia Oshry, a comedian and co-host of The Toast, has an Instagram account called “girlwithnojob”. For her, the use of a GLP-1 receptor agonist was a no-brainer. During her podcast, Claudia shared that if a drug that helped her lose weight was available, of course, she would use it.
Claudia also shared that the use of the drug was not a long-term fix and that she might even gain weight after stopping the drug. However, Claudia confirmed in an interview in 2024 that she indeed stopped the use of Ozempic when she and her husband, Ben Soffer, decided to have children.
Elon Musk
The billionaire founder of SpaceX and Tesla Motors, Elon Musk, publicly revealed that his transformation was caused by a mix of intermittent fasting and Wegovy in reaction to a fan’s question in 2022. In his direct response to the fan’s question on his fitness routine, he mentioned that Wegovy, an anti-obesity drug belonging to the GLP-1 receptor class of medications, also contributed to his transformation.
However, Musk took his advocacy for anti-obesity drugs a step further by stating in a post on X in 2024 that making Wegovy accessible to Americans could significantly improve their health, longevity, and overall quality of life.
Rosie O’Donnell
The actress’s transformation story on TikTok came as a surprise to her fans when she publicly announced her experience with Mounjaro by stating she had lost 10 pounds on the drug. She later posted an update stating she had lost a total of 15 pounds by taking Mounjaro at its lowest dose.
Years later, O’Donnell reveals she is still surprised by her transformation in her body as she continues to take her weight loss medications in addition to other habits that she believes have helped her maintain her weight loss by reducing her sugar intake, drinking more water, and exercising regularly.
