Meghan Trainor’s transformation has again made headlines since the singer appeared on the red carpet in August 2025 for the premiere of the movie ‘The Paper’ by the streaming service Peacock. Although the Grammy-winning singer’s makeover has always been about more than how she looks to the public, it has always been about how the singer feels about herself.
What Has Meghan Trainor Said About Her Weight Loss Journey?
Meghan Trainor has been very transparent and has repeatedly stressed that her transformation was not due to any single solution. During an interview in March 2025, after appearing on the Billboard Women in Music Awards, Meghan stated that her transformation was due to healthy eating habits, regular exercise, and medication such as Mounjaro, classified as a GLP-1 drug.
At the time, she was asked to make a statement on how she felt with regards to public response. She was disappointed by how some people were more concerned with how she looked than with how she did in terms of a successful music career. She emphasized that she was not seeking a physical transformation in order to resemble how she was in the past. Rather, she was seeking a transformation towards strength and health not only for herself but also for her family.
Trainor went on to expand on this in an Instagram post, in which she said she had worked closely with a dietitian, made significant lifestyle changes, and worked out and sought medical assistance after her second pregnancy. She said this had made her feel stronger and healthier, not just smaller.
Putting Context Around the Changes
She gained attention through her 2014 breakout song, *All About That Bass*, and has managed a busy life as a mother as well. She has two boys, Riley and Barry, with her husband, actor Daryl Sabara, and has centered her fitness life around being able to keep up with that lifestyle.

She has also talked openly about the reasons she chose the particular drug, Mounjaro, stating that she and her husband believed the drug had fewer side effects compared to other injectables. While GLP-1 drugs are typically used to treat diabetes, they are increasingly being used to treat people who are obese.
Transparency Beyond Weight Loss
Trainor has not restricted her candor to physical health issues only. In March 2025, she revealed before-and-after photographs after her breast augmentation surgery, in which she described how the procedure had helped her overcome her insecurities regarding her body’s asymmetry and discomfort caused by it.
Additionally, she has been very outspoken in her responses to criticisms leveled against her. This is seen in her response in August 2025 when she uploaded a video of herself participating in the stiletto challenge of Nicki Minaj. Trainor chose this moment to defend herself against criticisms of her appearance and assert her independence in not seeking to alter her body to suit others’ expectations.
Where It All Started
Trainor’s journey to her health reset began with her pregnancy, during which she was diagnosed with gestational diabetes. This experience, she’s said, pushed her to take a more serious look at long-term strength, energy levels, and recovery.

She explained in an interview with KIIS FM in November 2025 that “being energetic while touring and staying injury-free in your every-day life became huge motivating factors for me.” Now, she “strength trains a few times a week” and “hormones and gut health” are “huge factors” in “feeling capable in this crazy industry.”
At the same time, however, she has acknowledged the confusion that arose from the backlash after her body change. In fact, the criticism was unexpected for her but has never changed her priorities.
At the same time, Trainor has managed to present her own change in terms of her desire for strength, function, and health in her own body that can function for her work and her life at home.
