Kathy Bates wowed on the Oscars red carpet, her dazzling appearance and visible transformation catching the public’s attention. The celebrated Misery actress, aged 77, appeared at the 2026 ceremony in an elegant silver-and-blue dress that further highlighted her significant weight loss and new silhouette.
The creation was enriched with sophisticated details – subtle beading on the top and long sleeves – as the precisely tailored form flowed into a train that gracefully stretched out behind her. She completed the look with soft, old-Hollywood waves, with discreet but luxurious jewelry, and an elegant purse, achieving timeless glamour.

The audience and fans reacted quickly to her transformation, noting that the actress seems more vital, fresh, and confident than ever. Over the past few years, Kathy has been open about her weight-loss journey, noting that she has lost more than 100 pounds through a combination of lifestyle changes and medical therapy.
The actress pointed out that the turning point in her health came after the diagnosis of Type 2 Diabetes, which prompted her to change her eating and physical activity habits.
“Diabetes runs in my family, and I’ve seen firsthand how difficult it can be,” she told People. “My father went through a leg amputation, and one of my sisters is also dealing with this disease. It shook me and made me finally take control of my own health.”
She also discussed the role of GLP-1 therapy in her comprehensive approach to health. Responding to speculation about her transformation, she explained to Variety that the therapy helped her shed the last few pounds – but only after a long period of discipline and consistent work.
“This process took years,” she emphasized. “When Ozempic came along, he helped me get rid of what was left and maintain the results I had achieved.

As she herself points out, the crucial thing is not physical appearance, but a significantly improved quality of life. “Now that I’m healthy, I can move freely, breathe without difficulty, and enjoy everyday things,” she said.
Her return to the red carpet comes after a multi-decade, extremely successful career. She won the Oscar for the Best Actress in 1991 for her role in Misery, and since then, she has played roles that have established her as one of the most respected actresses of her generation.
