Bridget Fonda announced in 2002 that she was leaving the entertainment industry for good and further stated that she had no intention of returning, telling the press that “I enjoy being a civilian.”
She looked stunning at her most recent public appearance in Los Angeles, where the actress was spotted in the city while sporting a vibrant cardigan that highlighted her unique sense of style. The actress wore black trousers with a green T-shirt, a brown collared shirt, and the cardigan, which added the perfect touch to the overall look.
The cardigan, which was the focal point of the outfit, had different colors, including shades of blue, yellow, red, and green, and had a stitched image of a car on the front. Fonda completed the look with black sneakers and a navy-colored cross-body bag, and styled her gray hair in an elegant updo.
It was the actress’s first public appearance in Los Angeles since December, and the mother of one looked slimmer than ever amid rumors that she has been on a lifestyle journey, having reportedly shed 100 pounds in the last year and been spotted several times running errands in the city, showcasing her new athletic build.
Bridget Fonda rose to fame in the 1980s and 1990s and is best known for her roles in The Godfather Part III, Single White Female, Scandal, Jackie Brown, Point of No Return, and A Simple Plan, for which she received two Golden Globe nominations and an Emmy nomination, and was often compared to her grandfather, the renowned actor Henry Fonda.
“She performs in the great tradition of her grandfather, where less is more,” said Barbet Schroeder, director of Single White Female, to The New York Times. “I’ve rarely met an actor – perhaps with the exception of Jeremy Irons – who understands so much and is such a consummate professional.”
Bridget Fonda’s father, Peter Fonda, was also quoted in the same interview, saying, “For my father, acting meant everything. It was both escape and therapy.”
“Bridget is different. It’s not obsessive or driven by fear. For her, it’s about fitting in as many meaningful films as possible while the opportunity is there. She simply knows what she wants.”
She is the eldest child of Peter Fonda and his then-wife Susan Brewer, born in 1964, followed by her younger brother Justin in 1966. In 1972, Bridget and her brother stayed with their mother after their parents divorced, and they spent time with their father whenever they could.
Although Bridget Fonda’s parents’ divorce led to an “abandonment thing” for her, Bridget Fonda said in an interview, “I actually got along with him really well, and I was close to him until he passed away in August.”
“I grew up surrounded by imaginative, spontaneous adults, and it was wonderful to be part of that world… My dad used to chase me around the tennis court on roller-skates,” Bridget Fonda said to The Guardian in 2000.
“In the public’s eye, my dad may have been a hippy biker, but in reality, he was always very polished and well put together.” Bridget ultimately stopped acting in 2002, and her last film appearance was in the TV movie Snow Queen in 2002.
She went on to have her son, Oliver, in 2005 with her husband Danny Elfman. In response to a question in 2023 about whether she would ever consider acting again, Bridget replied candidly: “No. I don’t think so, it’s just too nice being a civilian.”
